FPOs can ensure sustainable agriculture, rural prosperity in J&K: Experts

Newly proposed Farmer Producer Organizations (FPO) can ensure sustainable and equitable agriculture growth—besides marking the rural prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir, experts said during an event held on Monday on south Kashmir’s district Anantnag.

According to official spokesperson, NABARD in coordination with district administration, Anantnag on Monday organized awareness-cum sensitization programme for FPO.

   

The programme was organized to promote sustainable and equitable agriculture and rural prosperity through effective credit support related services, institutional development and other initiatives.

The DDM NABARD Rouf Ahmad highlighted the objectives of the awareness cum sensitization programme, he stressed upon the farmers to form FPO’s and sell their produce on reasonable rates while avoiding brokers.

He informed the farmers that Government of India has recently launched the scheme for providing financial assistance and training to the farming community for establishment of FPO’s.

The DDM sought cooperation from the department of Agriculture and other allied sectors and farmers in framing 08 FPO’s with 100-person membership in each FPO in the said sectors.

JD Planning, CAO Anantnag, Chief Animal Husbandry officer Anantnag also informed the farmers and self-help groups about various welfare and job oriented schemes under implementation in the district.

A large number of farmers related with different agriculture and self help groups of NRLM participated in the programme.
