Frisking intensified amid heightened security in Srinagar ahead of PM Modi’s visit

Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Srinagar tomorrow, security was beefed up in the region’s summer capital on Friday.

Contingents of forces were deployed on the route-likely to be taken by the PM from Srinagar airport tomorrow.

Because of the frisking, massive traffic jam was witnessed on the road from Humhama to Hyderpora.

At several entry points, vehicles entering the city were allowed to move ahead only after thorough frisking.

Barricades have also been erected and people were allowed to move after questioning and frisking by government forces, said an eye witness.

Modi is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for Srinagar Ring Road at Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), Srinagar.

The joint resistance leadership of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik has called Lal Chowk ‘Chalo’ tomorrow to protest PM’s visit to the region.
