Functioning of forest department reviewed in Srinagar

A review meeting on Forest protection, working and on-going development works  and other allied issues of five forest territorial divisions falling under the jurisdiction of Srinagar Forest Circle was held under the chairmanship of Conservator of Forests, Srinagar Circle Irfan Ali Shah, at forest headquarters here, a spokesman of the department said in a statement.

 He said that various issues relating to forest protection and anti-smuggling measures including establishment of new check posts, strengthening patrolling in vulnerable forest areas and establishment of nakas to ensure proper check on the movement of timber and non timber forest produce, booking of offenders involved in forest offences were discussed threadbare. 

   

The meeting was informed that during the current year  50 FIRs have been lodged against timber smugglers/damage doers, 2928 cfts of timber and 4.59 Qtls of firewood seized, besides 24 Vehicles carrying illicit timber/MFP have been seized.
