Ganderbal animal farm gutted, 17 cattle dead

At least seventeen cattle were killed in a mysterious fire that broke out in a government-run animal farm in Ranbirbagh area of tehsil Lar in Ganderbal district.

Reports said the cattle shed of the livestock development board’s ‘bull mother farm’ caught fire last night.

   

They said that fire tenders were called but till they reached, the shed had already suffered complete damage in the blaze and all the seventeen cattle were killed.

A police official said 10 Jersey cows, 6 Jersey calves and 1 Buffalo calf died in the incident.

He added that a case with FIR No. 05/18 U/S 429,436 RPC has been registered in police station Lar and investigation has been taken up.

SHO police station Lar Tariq Ahmed told Greater Kashmir that investigation has been taken up in this regard to know the actual cause of the fire.

Additional deputy commissioner Ganderbal Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari, director animal husbandry Dr M Y Chaproo besides other officials visited the spot after the incident.

“The Bull mother farm in Ranbirbagh was set up in 2015. The structure has been completely gutted,” director Animal Husbandry Dr M Y Chaproo told Greater Kashmir.

He said that they have lodged an FIR for proper investigation into the incident.
