Ganderbal areas complain erratic power supply

Areas of Ganderbal district of central Kashmir face unscheduled power cuts during the holy month of Ramadan.

Reports from different areas of the district say that the power cuts have become more frequent since past week, especially during Suhoor and Iftar.

The locals allege that the PDD is still following the winter power supply schedule.

“It is appalling that instead of ensuring regular power supply during this holy month, the Power Development Department (PDD) is resorting to forced cuts,” said a resident of Gund town.

The locals also said that it gets difficult to go to the mosques during dark hours.

Similar reports of erratic power supply during Ramadan were received from Ganderbal town and Kangan town.

Meanwhile, the residents of Kullan village of Gund tehsil, Ganderbal Sunday staged protests against the PDD, blocking the Srinagar-Leh Highway due to which hundreds of vehicles were seen stranded on the both sides of the road.

The protesters said that many villages, including Kullan, Gagangir, Sonamarg, Mammar, Ganiwan, Sumbal, and Gund suffer due to unscheduled power cuts during Ramadan.

Executive engineer, PDD couldn’t be contacted in this regard. However, the residents have appealed to the Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal, Dr Piyush Singla to look into the matter.
