Ganderbal shuts against militant’s killing

A shutdown was observed on Sunday in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district against the killing of a local student-turned-militant Rahil Rashid Sheikh.

Sources said all the business establishments in the districtremained closed while the traffic was also off the roads.

   

There was heavy deployment of the government forces at the”sensitive points” in the district to thwart any untoward incident, sourcessaid.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people participated in the funeral ofthe slain militant, a resident of Nunner area of Ganderbal on Sunday.

Eyewitness said that soon after the funeral ended, the youthprotested and clashed with the government forces, who fired teargas shells todisperse the protesters.

On Saturday, two militants were killed in a brief gunfightwith the government forces in Shopian district of south Kashmir. One of theslain militants, the M Tech student, was from Nunner area of Ganderbaldistrict, who was identified as Rahil Rashid Shah.

Rahil reportedly had joined Hizb ul Mujahideen militantoutfit on April 3.
