The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday asked its cadre to gear up for District Development Council (DDC) polls.
“The polls could be held anytime. We should prepare for the elections,” party’s General Secretary (Organization) Ashok Kaul told the participants at a convention at Qazigund area of southern Kashmir.
The senior BJP leader claimed that Kashmir was on the path of development as promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The BJP will ensure providing three-tier governance to people in J&K,” he said. “The dream is coming true now. The development of any area is now responsibility of panchayat members and we are hopeful that they will do justice with their job,” he said, adding for the past several months work was going on several developmental projects.
The BJP, he said, has empowered people in Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. “The Panchayati Raj system is a powerful system of governance. The elected representatives will get more powers in future,” he said.
During the convention some Sarpanchs, Panchs and people from different areas joined the BJP. “People are joining us because other mainstream parties have deceived them,” he said. “Only BJP has the capacity to deliver good governance and give justice to people of Kashmir.”
The General Secretary also held meeting with BJP functionaries of southern Kashmir and discussed ongoing party elections.
The party has started the elections for Constituency and District presidents in the Valley. These polls will conclude in December.
The party has decided it will have separate presidents for Union Territories (UTs) of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh and the electoral exercise to elect the presidents will be completed in January.
At present Ravinder Raina is BJP’s president for J&K unit. He is also looking after party affairs of Ladakh.
Several BJP functionaries from southern Kashmir including Sofi Yousuf, Veer Saraf, media in charge, Manzoor Bhat and others attended the convention.
