Geelani calls for strike in Shopian on May 30

Then Omar Abdullah government played an important role in shielding the real culprits involved in the double rape and murder of Aasiya and Nelofar and provided a safe passage for their escape.

Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani Saturday has called for a public gathering at Shopian town on May 29 after the Friday prayers and complete shutdown in Shopian district on May 30 to mark the sixth death anniversary of Asiya and Nelofar.

“Then Omar Abdullah government played an important role in shielding the real culprits involved in the double rape and murder of Aasiya and Nelofar and provided a safe passage for their escape. After the mass gang rape by the forces in Kunanposhpora, the double rape and murder incident in Shopian is the most gruesome tragedy in the history of Kashmir and this incident shook the conscious of every Kashmiri. Forgetting this incident is not possible. Until the involved personnel into this incident are hanged in the public, the wounds of the Kashmiri nation will continue remain healed,” Geelani said in a statement.

“There were enough evidences available to prove the hand of the government forces into the duel murder and rape case of the two daughters of the nation but by misusing the government machinery, all those proofs were destroyed and the persons who knew anything about this incident were silenced by using pressure and force,” Geelani added.
