Geelani concerned over Ratnipora arrests, PSA on political, religious leaders

Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani today alleged that New Delhi was using its agencies and armed forces as an aggressive and repressive measure against peaceful and unarmed civilians including pro-freedom leaders and activists in Jammu and Kashmir.

“We express deep concern over the unabated arrests anddetention of 14 civilians of Ratnipora, Pulwama, slapping the PSA on MushtaqAhmad Veeri and Jamaat-e-Islami activists,” Geelani said, in a statement.

“These actions can’t in anyway deter the people fromsupporting the ongoing movement. For, the coercive measures, killings, detentions and suppressions will yield nothing, instead these will lead todevastation,” he said.

Geelani said, “Authorities are hell bent to curb andstrangulate the genuine aspirations and political voice for right toself-determination. Purely a political and peaceful movement as recognized inUN charter is being suppressed with muscular policy and by resorting tomilitary might.”
