Geelani seeks international probe into Kashmir massacres

Thanks people of Kupwara for observing shutdown

Paying rich tributes to the victims of Kupwara massacres on their anniversary observed today, Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani today demanded impartial investigation into all the gruesome massacres by the international agencies.

Thanking people of Kupwara for observing shutdown today against Kupwara massacre, Geelani, in a statement today, said, “It is heart wrenching to see the swelling number of widows and orphans in Kupwara district.”

He said, “The spirits of people of Kupwara are commendable as during all this period they faced worst situations at the hands of armed forces. We are duty bound to safeguard all these sacrifices offered by people.”

“A few self-interested and unscrupulous persons are hell-bent to portray adverse impression about freedom movement as if people are tired and not interested with ongoing movement,” Geelani said, cautioning people against the evil designs of vested interests.

Referring to shutdown on the event of Kupwara massacre, Geelani said, “Pro-Indian stooges stand exposed and people revived their commitment with martyrs and freedom movement and pledged that they won`t backtrack from ongoing freedom struggle.”

Meanwhile, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) today organized a special prayer function at Jamia Kupwara to remember the Kupwara martyrs.

The TeH leaders, while offering tributes to martyrs, expressed sympathy and solidarity with families of victims.

“People from all sections, youth and TeH activists participated in the prayer meeting. Later, local youth and people in a procession and amidst pro-freedom slogans demanded impartial probe into Kupwara massacre. Procession was peaceful but police arrested Bashir Ahmad Qureshi and took him to unknown place,” a spokesman of TeEH, in a statement today, said, condemning the police action and demanding immediate release of Bashir Ahmad Qureshi.
