A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 25-year-old youth in Pahalgam area of this South Kashmir district on Friday, police said, adding that they have registered a case against the accused.
According to police, the parents of the victim from Ladi village of Pahalgam Tehsil came up with a complaint that their daughter was raped by one, Nisar Ahmad Shah son of Muhammad Ashraf of Aamad Zoo village when she was going to her maternal house in Warganpura on Friday.
“As the girl was heading towards her maternal house, Shah caught hold of her and forcibly took her to a secluded place and raped her,” said a police official.
He said that the visibly shocked girl reported the same to her family who in turn filed the complaint with the police.
“We conducted the medical examination of the girl and the doctors confirmed the rape,” said the police official.
He said that the statement of the victim was recorded and an FIR bearing No. 12/2015 under section 363 and 376 RPC was registered against the accused.
“The accused is absconding and police have launched manhunt to nab him while further investigations are being carried on,” police said.
Station House Officer (Incharge) Pahalgam, Manzoor Ahmad, when contacted, confirmed that the case of rape has been registered against the accused youth.
