Girl suffers cardiac arrest after brother allegedly picked up army in south Kashmir

A girl suffered cardiac arrest after her brother was allegedly picked up by the army in Ashmuji village of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district. The army, however, refuted the allegations while police said that they were ascertaining the facts.

The deceased girl was identified as Rifat Jan (23), daughter of Abdul Hamid Rather.

Locals alleged that her brother Hidayatullah, 30, an auto driver by profession, was picked up by the army. As soon as her sister came to know about the detention she suffered heart attack, they said.

“She was rushed to district hospital Kulgam where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

District police chief Harmeet Singh said that a girl from Ashmuji was brought dead to the district hospital. “We are ascertaining the facts,” he said.

Army, however, termed the allegations as baseless. “Army personnel did not thrash or pick up any youth. The news is totally baseless,” army’s Srinagar-based spokesperson Colonel Rajesh Kalia told Greater Kashmir.
