Girls outshine boys in Ist inter-polytechnic college debate-2017

Three girls outclassed boys in debating skills as they performed eloquently to grab top three slots in the first inter-polytechnic college debate-2017 competition on “The Impact of Social Media on Youth” organized by and conducted at Govt Polytechnic for Women Srinagar on Saturday.

The first prize was bagged by Zanobia Deva, of 5TH semester electronics & communication engineering of Govt Polytechnic for Women, Srinagar, second prize was grabbed by  Iqra Manzoor of 5TH semester electronics & communication engineering of Govt Polytechnic for Women, Srinagar while third prize was given to Sadiya of 3rd semester of Govt Polytechnic College, Budgam respectively.

According to Shafquat Ara, principal Govt Polytechnic for Women Srinagar, the aim of the program was to involve youth to delve upon the sensitive issue of impact of social media on them.

Twenty students were drawn from various polytechnics of Kashmir who spoke on the occasion and more than 300 students participated by attending the function including faculty of the other polytechnics as well. Apart from three prizes, 16 consolation prizes were given to participants.

Among the participants include Aqsa Zahoor from Ganderbal polytechnic, Junaid Habib Shah Budgam, Danish, Sadiya from Kulgam,  Syed Muqtasid, Mohd Abbas Malik from Bandipora,  Arizoo Iman, Shahzul Farooq from Srinagar, Mehraj-ud-din Ahmad Dar, Nafisa Tariq from Baramulla, Muskaan Bashir, Muzamil from Kupwara, Shoib Ahmad, Abid Sajad from Pulwama (IUST) and Arjuman Rafiq from Kashmir Govt Polytechnic College, Gogjibagh, Adeeba and Tahir Ahmad Lone deliberated on various issues confronting youth while using social media. 

Farooq Shah, managing editor Kashmir Observer, Srinagar, Dr Nasheman Ashraf, Scientist, I.I.I.M Sanatnagar, Srinagar and Hina Qadri, NSS Officer, Govt. College for Women, M.A Road, Srinagar acted as jury members during the debate.

Among others Yasmin Naqshbandi, TPO, Govt Polytechnic for Women, Srinagar, Dr Nasir Ahmad Shah,  Er Junaid Gilani, HOD Food Tech, Er Ali Mohd. Khan, HOD E&C, Syed Tabasum Geelani, Head Medical Lab Tech, Fozia Mir, Head Garment/Textile Tech, were also present during the program.

The program was coordinated by HOD, OMCA, Nusrat Jan, and Lecturer, E&C, Er Munnaza Mubarik of Govt Polytechnic College for Women Srinagar.
