GK Impact | SWC seeks report on unsafe school building in Rajouri

The J&K State Commission for Protection of Women and Child Rights (SWC) Friday took suo moto cognizance of a news report published on July 26 in Greater Kashmir regarding unsafe building of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Panihad in Rajouri.

The commission sought action taken report from the concernedin this regard.

   

The school in Panihad, Rajouri was established in 1948 andupgraded to the level of higher secondary later.

Over 400 students from Panihad, Sokar, Parori, Chambi, Trar,Karhad and Parkassi Panchayats are studying in the school in an insecureenvironment as the school building is in dilapidated condition and has beendeclared unsafe.

The principal of the school had taken up the matter ofdamaged building with the concerned authorities after which the Public WorksDepartment had conducted a survey and submitted a DPR with the requirement ofRs 8.5 lakh for repairing two classrooms of the school in March 2017.

However, no action has been taken by the concernedauthorities in this regard so far, sources said.

Considering the gravity and seriousness of the matter, thecommission sought action taken report from the concerned education authoritieswith the directions to do the needful at the earliest.
