The protesting teachers said that they were appointed and promoted as GLTs but the education department changed their category and brought them into the fold of RMSA.

Highlighting their demands and seeking immediate release of the pending salaries of teachers working under Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), scores of teachers Monday staged protest at Press Enclave here, stating that education department brought more than a hundred general line teachers (GLT) into RMSA fold, making Union Government to halt their salaries.

The protesting teachers said that they were appointed and promoted as GLTs but the education department changed their category and brought them into the fold of RMSA.

“As the Central Government came to know about this ‘faulty’ decision of the State’s education department, it halted our salaries since past six months,” a female teacher said.

“While Government of India’s flagship scheme Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) at the elementary level of education is marred by poor implementation in J&K, the execution of RMSA at the secondary level is no different. We fail to understand why we were transferred and forced to work under RMSA,” the protesting teachers said, adding that even their arrears were not cleared by the department.

The teachers demanded that their transfer orders should be reverted immediately so that they get their salaries in time.
