Govt again orders closure of educational institutions

Fearing more student protests, the government has ordered that educational institutions in most parts of Kashmir would remain closed on Thursday. The decision has been taken as government forces shot dead four more civilians and injured dozens others in Kulgam district on Wednesday.

All the educational institutions will remain closed in Srinagar, Shopian, Pulwama, Bandipora districts (except Gurez sub-division), officials said.

   

The district administration Kupwara has decided to close down all the educational institutions in the district. “The class work in all schools and colleges of district except Machill, Keran and Karnah will remain suspended,” deputy commissioner Kupwara said. However, in the wake of announcement of shutdown by joint resistance leadership, the government didn’t make any formal announcement for closing the institutions.

“Two day shutdown call has been announced and it is presumed that schools and colleges will remain closed. So we don’t need to make official announcement for it,” a deputy commissioner said.

Deputy commissioner Ganderbal said all educational institutions will remain open in the district.

The Kashmir University has decided to suspend the class work on Thursday while examinations scheduled for Thursday and Friday have been postponed.

“Fresh dates for these papers will be announced later,” official spokesman of the varsity said.

Islamic University of Science and Technology has decided to suspend the class work on Thursday while exams have been postponed as well.

The J&K Public Service Commission also postponed the exams of range officers scheduled on Thursday. “The exams scheduled on Thursday have been postponed and will be conducted on Monday (April 16) afternoon,” chairman PSC Lateef U Zaman Deva said.

SSM College of Engineering and Technology has postponed an interview for selection of faculty in M. Tech Programme scheduled for Thursday, a statement issued by the college said. “The interview for selection of faculty in M. Tech programme scheduled on 12th April in dean academic affairs office of KU has been postponed and will be held on April 18 at 11 a.m at the same venue,” the statement added.
