General Administration Department (GAD) Tuesday constituted an Apex Selection Committee (ASC) for selection of Ombudsman under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in Jammu and Kashmir.
An order issued said that the committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical Education Department. Representative of Union Ministry of Rural Development, an eminent civil society person nominated by the Union Ministry of Rural Development as two members and secretary to the Government, Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj as member convener.
This committee will recommend selection of the Ombudsman in each district, and also to recommend termination of Ombudsman from his/her post in case of unsatisfactory performance.
The quorum for the meeting of the selection committee will be considered fulfilled only if either the representative of the Ministry of Rural Development or the representative of Civil Society Organisation is present in the meeting.
