Govt formation: 6-member PDP team to negotiate with BJP

Sources told Greater Kashmir the team led by MuzaffarHussainBaig would include party leaders Tariq Hameed Karra, Naeem Akther, DrHaseebDrabu, Syed Altaf Bukhari and Vikramaditya Singh.

Inching towards government formation in Jammu and Kashmir, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has constituted a high-level team to hold negotiations with the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) to finalize the Common Minimum Program (CMP) for governance in the State.

Sources told Greater Kashmir the team led by MuzaffarHussainBaig would include party leaders Tariq Hameed Karra, Naeem Akther, DrHaseebDrabu, Syed Altaf Bukhari and Vikramaditya Singh.

Prior to moving forward on cobbling the alliance with the right-wing party, the PDP discussed its “agenda for alliance” with BJP. Senior leaders from both parties held several round of meetings in and outside the state to deliberate on government formation.

Sources said PDP’s agenda for alliance which mainly focused on restarting dialogue process on Kashmir issue on both internal and external front, revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act and other key issues came up for discussion in the meetings.

“It would be part of the CMP,” they said.

Party’s Chief Spokesman NaeemAkther said the PDP panel would finalize the CMP with the team of leaders from BJP.

“The preliminary work has been completed on the CMP but it will be given final shape by the teams

from both the parties,” he said. “It will be a document for governing the state for six years.”

“We want peace in the state as well as entire region,” said Akther. “Restarting dialogue process with Pakistan and on the internal front and initiating the process for gradual removal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from J&K will pave way for it.”

He said the PDP and BJP have also discussed transfer of NHPC’s power projects to the state. “Renegotiating the terms on which the projects were handed over to the NHPC also came up for discussion. The rehabilitation of the flood victims is also a priority,” Akther said.

“Once the CMP is finalized, the process for government formation will start,” he said.

Both PDP and BJP have been holding negotiations on government formation for more than one and a half month after the Assembly election results were declared on December 23.
