Govt orders inquiry into pellet firing on Hiba to ‘fix responsibility’

The government has ordered inquiry into an incident in which 19-month-old Hiba Jan’s right eye suffered extensive damage due to pellet ammunition fired by government forces on November 25 in Shopian district.

The government inquiry was announced three days after the incident that triggered widespread outrage. 

   

“I have ordered an inquiry into the incident,” K Vijay Kumar, security advisor to the J&K governor, told Greater Kashmir. 

“Responsibility will be fixed,” Kumar said while terming the incident unfortunate and said that during the inquiry, circumstances and other related factors will be looked into. 

He said that Hiba will undergo another surgery after some days and they are in touch with medical authorities.  

“I talked to the principal Government Medical College Srinagar and have asked her to provide the kid the best possible treatment,” Kumar said. 

“I have been told she will undergo another intervention in coming days and things are being monitored.”
