Govt orders magisterial probe into Trehgam youth’s killing; police lodges FIR against army

Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday ordered a magisterial probe into the killing of a 22-year-old in army firing last evening in Trehgam village of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, even as the police lodged an FIR  against the army.

Khalid Gaffar Malik was killed after army used live ammunition against protesters in Trehgam area. Malik was sitting at his shop front when a bullet him, leading to his death.

   

District Magistrate (DM) Kupwara, Khalid Jehangir said that they have ordered an enquiry into the incident.

Additional District Commissioner (ADM), Handwara Muzaffar Hussain has been appointed as the inquiry officer and asked to complete the probe within a month.

A police official said that an FIR has been lodged against the army under Section 307 RPC (attempt to murder).

He said the FIR 46/ 2018 has been lodged under sections 147, 148, 323, 306, 307, RPC at police station Trehgam.
