The school education department on Tuesday approved mass promotion of all government and private school students from class 1 to 9 and class 11 in Jammu division.
The government has also approved mass promotion for students who were supposed to appear in bi-annual class 11 exams of both Jammu and Kashmir division.
An official said the decision was taken after a proposal was submitted by Chairperson, JK Board of School Education (BOSE) Veena Pandita on April 4, seeking mass promotion to the students.
The proposal was approved keeping in view delay in the commencement of new academic session.
“The students from class 1 to 9 had already appeared in their annual examination but the evaluation of their answer scripts and declaration of result was pending due to the prevailing situation,” said Director School Education Jammu (DSEJ), Anuradha Gupta.
She said the new academic session was supposed to commence in Jammu from April 1 which was however delayed due to the lockdown.
“Keeping in view the present circumstances, the evaluation and declaration of result would consume lot of time and delay the commencement of new session. That is why the proposal for mass promotion to the students was submitted to the government,” she said.
The Director, School Education, Jammu has been asked to monitor and finalize the mass promotion as per approved norms.
“The students of class 11 who were to appear in annual regular exams falling under summer zone of Jammu division (that stands postponed) be promoted to class 12 as one time exemption,” it reads.
The class 11 students will be promoted subject to the condition they have filled examination form and every student was found eligible to appear in the exams and a roll number slip issued to him by the Board.
Also, the class 11 students from winter zones of Jammu and Kashmir division who were to appear in the private biannual exam will be considered for mass promotion as well.
The students will be promoted provided they have duly filed in the examination forms as per JKBOSE norms and have been approved by the authorities.
“The promotion of the students (in both the divisions) shall be subject to the condition that, if for any reason and at any stage in future, it is found that a candidate was not eligible for appearing in Class 11th but has been declared fit for promotion by the school, JKBOSE reserves the right to cancel his/her promotion without any prior notice,” the official communique reads.
