Govt rehires 550 subject-specific teachers for one month

The J&K government on Monday accorded sanction for the re-hiring of 550 subject-specific teachers for 110 up-graded schools in state. The teachers will be re-hired on contract basis by the department.

The order for re-hiring of subject specific teachers was issued in wake of the decision taken by the state administrative council (SAC) on July 8.

Around 550 subject-specific teachers were earlier recruited under erstwhile RMSA scheme by the department last year on contract basis for 110 upgraded schools for a period of one year on consolidated salary of Rs 30000 per month.

The teachers were recruited for a period of one academic session in March 2018. However the services of these teachers were extended from March 2019 for three months. The services of these teachers were terminated on June 30 which led to the academic crises in the schools due to the dearth of subject specific teachers in the educational institutions across state.

Greater Kashmir last week reported about the academic crises created in schools due to disengagement of subject specific teachers in mid-session.

Already reported, the teachers were disengaged despite the recommendations from state project directorate of Samagra (erstwhile RMSA) for continuing services of subject specific teachers keeping in view the ongoing academic session and dearth of teaching staff in schools.

The recommendation were put forth keeping in view the ongoing academic session due to which it was not feasible for department to start fresh recruitment for subject specific teachers for the left out academic session this year.

The secretary school education department today issued an order and accorded sanction for the temporary re-hiring of 550 subject specific teachers for 110 schools upgraded under RMSA.

“The services have been re-hired purely on contract basis. Only those teachers will be re-hired who have already rendered their services during 2019 up to June 30,” reads the order.

It reads that the contract period of these teachers will restart from July 10 to August 10 in winter zone while as from July 15 to August 15 in summer zone schools.

“The candidate shall give fresh undertaking as per prescribed procedure. The rehiring will be terminated on the prescribed dates or provision of regular teaching staff by the department by way of rationalization, whichever is earlier,” the order reads.
