Govt settles claims of 3 COVID19 warriors under PMGKY

The families of three health professionals from Kashmir who lost their lives in line of duty during covid have been granted Rs 50 lakh under the national social assistance programme-PMGKY, officials said on Friday.

Financial Commissioner Health and Medical Education Department, Atal Dulloo told Greater Kashmir that so far seven health professionals including three doctors and four paramedics have lost their lives during COVID-19 duty in J&K. “(Among the deceased) one paramedic was from Jammu and rest were from Kashmir including three doctors,” said Dulloo.

   

He added families of three health professionals from Kashmir have been provided insurance amount of Rs 50 lakh under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana(PMGKY). “The cases of other three are in process. Their papers have been completed and their cases have been sent to the insurance company. In one case, the papers were awaited, it needs a legal heir certificate,” he said.

Dulloo said that the whole amount is reimbursed in one go into the account of next of the kin of the deceased.

The National Social Assistance Programme, PMGKY was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the imposition of lockdown on March 24 to overcome the economic impact of coronavirus-induced lockdown on the poor. The PM had announced a relief of Rs 1.70 lakh crore under the program.

Under the provisions of the program Safai Karamcharis, ward-boys, nurses, ASHA workers, paramedics, technicians, doctors and specialists and other health workers get a cover of Rs 50 lakh.
