Govt to set-up ‘Chinar Bagh’ at Bandipora

The District Development Commissioner (DDC), Bandipora, Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza on Monday inaugurated Chinar plantation drive.

Joint DirectorPlanning, Imtiyaz Ahmad; District Floriculture Officer, Tariq Habib and otherofficers were present on the occasion.

   

Addressing the gathering, the DDC askedPanchayat representatives to plant 20 Chinars in each Panchayat during thedrive.

He said aim of the drive was to save Chinartrees. He said that the Department of Floriculture has a target of planting1,000 Chinars in the district besides distributing Chinar saplings to Schoolsand Panchayats.

Mirza urged heads of the educationalinstitutions and students to plant Chinar saplings in their Schools andColleges.

Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad saidthe district administration was contemplating to develop ‘Chinar Bagh’ in thedistrict. He said the administration will soon identify a location for it.

Meanwhile the DDC inaugurated fortnightlysanitation cum awareness drive organized by Mahila Shakti Kendra under SwachhBharat Mission, with an aim to achieve universal sanitation, hygiene and opendefecation free society.

Addressing the gathering, the DDC said theaim of observing Pakhwada was to create awareness among the masses aboutimportance of sanitation and sensitize people about it.

He said during the week, series ofactivities will be carried out across the district, including mega Swachh rallyon March 12, cleanliness drives in Schools, Colleges and other governmentinstitutions with special focus on Solid Waste Management.
