A gunfight between security forces and militants is underway in BaderhamaZawoora village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
An official said that following a tip-off, a joint party of Army’s 23 para, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jammu & Kashmir Police cordoned off the area on Wednesday to nab the militants.
“The search operation turned into a gunfight after militants holed up in the area opened fire on forces, triggering an encounter. The exchange of fire was continuing till late evening,” he said.
According to police no body was recovered from the gunfight spot yet and the intermittent firing was going on when this report was being filed by late Wednesday evening.
Security forces have also installed lights and tightened the outer layer cordon to prevent the militants from escaping.
Two to three militants are believed to be trapped in the area.
Following the gunfight, authorities suspended mobile internet services in Shopian district.
