Gusty winds damage tin roofs in parts of Valley

Parts of the Valley received rainfall while gusty winds blew for most ofthe day on Sunday. As per Meteorological Department officials, parts of Budgam,Shopian and Anantnag received light to moderate  rains while strong windscontinued till late evening. 

Reports reaching from Budgam said the strong winds resulted in damage totin roofs of several houses. Deputy Director MeT Mukhtar Ahmad said a currentWestern Disturbance, which brings a change in weather was likely to continuetill Sunday night. He said there was possibility of light rains at isolatedplaces for next few hours.  ” An active Western Disturbance overJ&K has caused the change in weather but it will mostly remain dry onMonday,” he said.

   

As a result of rains lashing upper reaches, fresh landslides disrupted traffic on the 270-kilometer Srinagar-Jammu National Highway for several hours on Sunday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic (Highway ) Ajay Anand said the the road was closed at 3 am on Sunday due to a landslide at Marog near Ramban and later cleared for traffic at 11 am.

” All the stranded trucks carrying essentials for the Valley were stranded for few hours. But road was cleared and traffic allowed to move later in the day,” Anand said. 

As per traffic advisory issued here, subject to condition of road, only heavy vehicles carrying essentials would be allowed to move on the highway on Monday.
