Haneefa Nursing College inaugurated at Sopore

Haneefa Nursing College, run by the Qudsiyya Health Care and Education Trust, Sopore, was inaugurated today at a function held on the campus of the College at Sopore.

In a statement the college said, the Prof Ruby Reshi, Principal, Government Medical College, Baramulla was the Chief Guest on the occasion.  “The college has been named after late Haneefa Mustafa Shah, wife of a renowned Physician of Sopore, Dr H Atiqullah, and mother of Prof Shad Salim Akhtar, Prof Farhat Nabeen (former Head of Department of OBGYN at Government Medical College Srinagar), Dr Hakim Mushtaq Ahmed (Consultant Orthodontic Surgeon), and Hakim Khalid Ahmed (Industrialist),” it said.

   

Newly admitted students of the Haneefa Nursing College and the Hakim Sanaullah Institute of Paramedical Sciences took part in a debate on the occasion. The topics were related to International Women’s Day.

“The attendees were informed about the philanthropic work of late Haneefa, which included arranging water supply for a local school in the 1970’s, and education of many youth, facts which was never revealed while she was alive. The attendees were also told about how Islam never equates men with women, but rather has defined roles for each. Instead, the attendees were told, women have an elevated position in Islam, in terms of respect and reverence in society,” the statement said.

The Haneefa Nursing College admits a batch of 40 students annually for BSc Nursing. The campus is located at Mazbugh Road, Sopore, the authorities said.
