Hasnain Masoodi condemns ‘mass arrests’ in south Kashmir

National Conference (NC) leader and Member Parliament elect from Anantnag constituency Hasnain Masoodi has condemned, what he said, mass arrests across south Kashmir after Dadsara Tral incident.

Justice (Rtd) Masoodi while addressing NC workers here insouth Kashmir, said, ” As per the reports received from Kokernag, Anantnag,Qazigund, Awantipora, Pampore, Seer Hamdan and other places hundreds of youth,a good number of them reportedly juveniles, have been arrested on meresuspicions and locked in the police stations.”

   

“Hundreds of people are waiting outside police stations tosee their children free from police custody,” he said, appealing to theadministration to immediately let off the youth without registering nay caseagainst them as, according to him, “they have been arrested on mere suspicionsthat they may join a religious gathering and registration of case, in thecircumstances would unjustifiably put their career at peril and push them touncertainty.”

“We remind the administration that atrocities and highhandedness will be fraught with grave consequences and in some case push theharassed youth to militancy. The administration and police authorities shouldlearn from the previous mistakes and avoid confrontationist attitude,” Masoodisaid.

He demanded immediate release of arrested youth withoutcausing any blemish on their career so that they immediately rejoin theirrespective education institutions and resume their studies.
