HC orders audit of government accommodation

The estates department was on Wednesday ordered by the High Court to ensure eviction of un-authorised occupants from the government accommodations in Jammu and Kashmir, seeking a compliance report by September 6.

Seeking eviction of the illegal occupants Justice Ali Muhammad Magrey observed that it had become necessary to have information about the government accommodations before proceeding further in the related matter.       

   

 The court asked the director of estates department to file an affidavit within three weeks indicating the existing criteria and regulations for making allotment of accommodations to ministers, sitting and former Judges, serving and retired police and administration officers, sitting and former legislators, protected persons and media persons. 

The court also asked the officer to indicate in the affidavit details of accommodations allotted and in occupation of former ministers, former legislators, sitting legislators, officers, Judges via-a-vis their entitlement, besides furnishing details of available government accommodations. 

The court asked the director to provide list of the occupants with the details of accommodation, who are in possession of the available units as per their entitlement in tune with the regulations besides the list of unauthorised occupants.

“Petitioner along with all such un-authorised incumbents, whose list would be furnished by the Director, Estates, shall be put on notice by the Registrar Judicial of this Court for furnishing the details of their houses in Jammu and Srinagar,” the court said.
