The High Court on Thursday transferred a Public Interest Litigation seeking to regulate spiraling airfare to its Jammu wing where a similar plea is pending disposal.
A division bench headed by acting Chief Justice Aloke Aradhy has shifted to Jammu wing the PIL filed by an NGO, Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Forum, through its Secretary General M. M. Shuja against rising airfares.
The Forum is seeking intervention of the Court with regard to unfair and irrational hike in airfare from Jammu to Srinagar, Delhi to Srinagar, and Srinagar to Delhi.
The Forum seeks directions from government of India Ministry of Civil Aviation, Director General Civil Aviation and J&K government through Principal Secretary Department of Civil Aviation to disclose the mechanism of fixation of airfare in the country, the criteria of any hike in airfare and ways and means to prevent any unreasonable and unfair hike in the airfare. The Forum also seeks directions to the concerned authorities not to make any hike in future unilaterally without the prior approval of union government or state government.
