Hurriyat G chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Hurriyat M chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and the militant conglomerate United Jihad Council have extended the Eid greetings to the Muslim world in general and Kashmiri Muslims in particular on eve of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Geelani urged people to remember the destitute section of the society on the auspicious occasion. Mirwaiz demanded unconditional release of all the prisoners before the Eid-ul-Fitr saying that the plight of Kashmiri prisoners was disappointing as they are being meted out ill treatment.
In a statement to news agency CNS, the UJC Chief Syed Salahuddin impressed upon the affluent people to come forward and help the needy and poor so that they can also be part of Eid celebrations. He also urged upon masses to remember those families who sacrificed their dear ones for the sake of freedom movement.
“There are thousands of poor, destitute, orphans, widows, families with disappeared kith and kin. Such people don’t have any mode of income. We must help them and bring smile on their faces,” Salahuddin said. “The blood of innocent people in Kashmir, Syria, Afghanistan and Palestine was shed during the holy month of Ramadhan. This sacred blood will not go waste and will surely help us achieve our goal,” Salahuddin said.
Felicitating the Muslim Ummah on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, the Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani said, “Eid is the day of expressing gratitude to Almighty Allah and seeking His blessings.”
“It is also the day of expressing solidarity with the families of our martyrs, destitute and orphans. It is the day of rejuvenating the spirit of freedom in Eidgahs,” Geelani said in a statement.
He said, “Eid is a day of happiness and blessings but the Kashmiri nation has so far missed the real spirit of this day because of the atrocities and the cruel behaviour of the government forces against the common people and the people of this troubled region are miserably suffering since last seven decades.”
Appealing people to celebrate the Eid with austerity and simplicity and according to the Islamic principles, Geelani said, “The Eid-ul-Fitr is the day of sharing celebrations with orphans, widows and poor class of society.”
In a statement here, a Hurriyat M spokesman said, “people irrespective of their age continue to remain lodged in various prisons and majority of them are without trial and deprived for the all the basic facilities guaranteed in their respective jail manual.”
“Prolonging the detention of prisoners is nothing but a political vendetta to break their resolve but time has proved that all the inmates have shown a tremendous courage and patience despite remaining in prisons for decades together,” the Hurriyat M spokesman said.
“In Kashmir, ultimate repression is being unleashed through military might to muzzle the rights of people and to force them into a submission. Kashmiri prisoners lodged in various prisons that include Kotbalwal, Central Jail Srinagar, Tihar Jail Delhi, Udhampur, Kahtua, Hira Nagar and other prisons are facing tremendous hardships and even basic healthcare is not available to them,” he added.
“Height is that Kashmiri prisoners are being kept with the hardcore criminals thereby raising the risk of them being getting killed or injured as seen a few months back in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail,” the spokesman said.
