Hizb militant’s brother killed in Pulwama village

The body of a Pulwama resident was found riddled with bullets Thursday morning in a village in the southern Kashmir district, residents and police said.

Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh was the brother of an active militant ofthe Hizbul Mujahideen group, Irfan Ahmad.

   

His body was found by the Chowkidar of a government-runschool inside its building in Naira village some four kilometers from Pulwamatown around 9:30am.

Soon after the body was discovered, villagers rushed to thespot to see the body of Sheikh who was missing since later Wednesday evening.

Sheikh ran a shop in the village.

Witnesses said scores of villagers later marched towards thedistrict Deputy Commissioner’s office carrying the corpse, demanding a probeinto the mysterious killing.

“They, however, were intercepted by police nearRangmulla bridge after which some youth pelted them (police) with stones”,an eyewitnesses said, adding police responded by firing tear smoke shells todisperse the angry villagers.

Senior Superintendent of Police Chandan Kohli told GreaterKashmir that police registered a case and started investigation into Sheikh’skilling.

Authorities suspended cellular internet service in the areato prevent mobilisation of protestors.
