I knew PAGD won’t work: Hakeem Yaseen

Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) Chairman Hakeem Yaseen Tuesday said he stayed away from the Peoples’ Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) knowing that it would not work.

In an interview to a local news gathering agency KNS, he said, “In the past, a lot of agreements took place between the NC and Congress, and PDP and Congress and these parties even formed governments in alliances. However after being in power, rather than benefiting people, they did more harm to them. Considering those experiences, I knew the alliance which was formed won’t work.”

Yaseen said that forming the alliance was a good decision but they had not come before the people with a proper roadmap.

“They didn’t show maturity that would have reflected that PAGD would last long. Every party has its own agendas and manifestos and ignoring all those agendas and choosing one path was not going to be feasible. The promises they made were not fulfilled. They aren’t showing any signs that would reflect their unity,” he said.

The PDF chairman said that the ongoing uncertainty in Jammu and Kashmir could only be addressed by restoring J&K’s lost status.

He suggested the leadership of all political parties to unite for the restoration of special status after formulating a roadmap for it.

“All the parties have to leave their egos, and talk about the status of Kashmir with Government of India (GoI) and demand statehood. If all parties keep their agendas on side and choose a roadmap regarding the restoration of statehood and Article 370, I don’t think there will be any issue which won’t reach at a solution. New Delhi doesn’t have to grant us anything new. Article 370 was snatched from us,” Yaseen said.
