Forest department on Friday seized illicit timber from a forest area here.
An official said acting on a tip off, forest officials from Control Room Magam and Forest Protection Force jointly carried out searches in compartment No 63 in Krumhoora forests and seized 108 cfts of illicit timber.
Locals alleged that timber smugglers were rampantly felling green gold in the forest areas here. “We have complained against the forest officer concerned time and again but to no avail. We demand stern action against timber smugglers and the officials who are hand in glove with the smugglers”, added locals.
Conservator, north circle Irfan Rasool confirmed the seizure and said a case under law Act has been registered. “If any forest officials is found involved, he will have to face the music,” Rasool said.
