Imported food safe: FSSAI

A committee of experts constituted by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to examine possibility of presence of Coronavirus in imported food items has opined the cooked meat including poultry was safe to eat.

However,as a precautionary measure the consumers have been advised to avoid consumptionof raw or un-cooked meat as well as unprocessed food products and follow good hygienepractices.

   

Frozen food items must beconsumed only after cooking them properly, said a statement.

The food business operatorshave also been directed to adopt proper hygienic conditions in their respectiveestablishments as laid down under the provisions of Food Safety and StandardsAct-2006, failing which action as warranted under law shall be initiatedagainst them.
