The annual amarnath yatra continued from both the Baltal and pahalgam routes on tuesday despite a brief spell of overnight rainfall, officials said.
“The yatra continued from both Baltal and pahalgam routes and pilgrims were allowed to undertake journey from both the base camps on early Tuesday at its cut off timimg” officials said.
“Nearly 3000 pilgrims left base camp baltal on early Tuesday morning in separate batches by road towards cave shrine for darshan of shiv lingam, adding that few used heli services from both routes” an official deployed on amarnath yatra told Greater Kashmir.
In 19 days of the yatra so far, the pilgrim count has touched 2 lakh (approx) and it is expected to cross last year’s total figure of 2.6 lakh in the first 30 days itself, official said.
Since it started on June 28, more that 197,000 pilgrims have already performed the annual pilgrimage.
The 60-day annual “yatra” began on the twin routes of Baltal in Ganderbal and Pahalgam in Anantnag on June 28 and is scheduled to conclude on August 26, coinciding with Shravan Purnima festival.
