Islamic University organises workshop on Women’s Self-Defense

A day-long workshop on Women’s Self-Defense with theme ‘Be Khouf Azaad Jeena Hai Mujhe’, was conducted on Friday at Islamic University of Science & Technology to enlighten the women regarding self-defense.

The workshop was organized jointly by Dean of studentsand  Directorate of Physical Education& Sports in collaboration with PES FOUNDATION and DARK PRODUCTIONS. On theoccasion, Chairperson J&K State Commission for Protection of Women &Child Rights was the Chief Guest & Prof. A.M. Shah Dean Academic affairs/Dean School of Management Studies was Guest of Honour. Besides, the workshopwas graced by all Deans, Deputy Registrars and other dignitaries.

   

Appreciating the efforts for organizing such workshopespecially for women, Adv. Vasundhara P. Masoodi in her address said that theincidents of assaults on women are on rise in Kashmir also but people behavelike mute spectators.

“It is hard to imagine that such incidents are also on risein Kashmir. Due to conservative mindset, we (people) hesitate and don’t reportto concerned authorities. There is possibility of such incidents in futurealso.” She further said that it is the call of the day to inform and educatewomen about Sexual Abuse.

Assistant Director of DPE&S IUST and MotivationalSpeaker, Dr. Hilal Ahmad Rather, enlightened the audience comprising of guestsand students through demonstration, PowerPoint Presentation and video clips regardingthe women self-defense.

Prof. A.M. Shah said, “This workshop will remind us of ourmost important duty and responsibilities towards our children and it is notonly the responsibility of schools, colleges or university only,” he said andadded, “We should educate and aware girls from the early age about right andwrong”.
