The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Monday awarded Umar Wani with a gold medal for securing first position in Masters of Journalism in 2012.
A statement issued here said Wani was awarded by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who is also the Chancellor of IUST Awantipora, on the maiden convocation of the IUST held at SKICC here.
Wani is a pursuing PhD in Journalism and Mass Communication from IUST and has worked with several electronic and print media outlets.
“I was awarded the United States Legislative Fellowship in the year 2016, wherein I got the opportunity to work with prestigious institutes including World Learning and Youth Services America based in Washington DC,” he said in the statement.
It said he has done advocacy of e-governance in J&K, using social media as a tool to bridge the gap between the youth and authorities, worked on youth-related issues and worked at the J&K Sports Council.
