Jamaat activist among 4 booked under PSA in Kulgam

Four persons including a Jamaat-e-Islamia activist were booked under Public Safety Act on Thursday in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, even as five youth were detained during a night raid in neighbouring Pulwama district.

A police official at Kulgam identified the four personsbooked under PSA as Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh of Rampura Qaimoh, Javeed Ahmad Khanof Bogam,  Rameez Shah of Souch andGulzar Ahamd Ganie of Arreh village. He said they were shifted to  Kotbalwal jail in Jammu.

   

Sixty-year-old Sheikh is a member of recently proscribedsocio-religious organisation Jamaat-e-Islamia and was already under detention.

According to one of his family members, it is third timewhen Sheikh has been booked under the controversial law which permits detentionwithout trial.

In the neighbouring Pulwama district, security forces duringan overnight raid detained five persons.

A police official said the forces raided the Tahab villageof the district and arrested five persons.

The official identified the detainees as Tariq Ahmad Mir sonof  Ab Gani, Suhail Ahmad Wani son ofAbdul Rashid, Aasif Ahmad Rather son of Abdul Gani, Nasir Nazir son of  Nazir Ahmad Ganie and Naseer Ahmad Wani sonof Abdul Rashid, all residents of Tahab, Pulwama.

He said, “The detainees are being quizzed for theiralleged role in various stone pelting incidents in the area.”

Pertinently, dozens of youth were detained from Pulwamadistrict over past one month.
