Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh flyover to be inaugurated tomorrow: DC Srinagar

The last phase of the Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh flyover will be inaugurated and thrown open for vehicular traffic tomorrow on June 30.

The inauguration of the last phase tomorrow will be afterover five and a half years since work on the prestigious flyover projectstarted in October 2013 and over a year after the first phase thereof wasinaugurated and thrown open in May last year.

   

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary whovisited the flyover Saturday evening said tomorrow is a big moment for both theadministration and the people of the district and it comes after big andfocused efforts over the last several months to complete it by this newdeadline.

He said the stretch will be thrown up for vehicular trafficfrom Jehangir Chowk towards Rambagh adding that traffic towards Jehangir Chowkwill be allowed after completion of construction of ramp at Jehangir Chowk whichis expected to take about two weeks.

The much-awaited completion and opening of this last phaseis expected to result in huge traffic relief to commuters traveling across thebusy stretch between Jehangir Chowk and Rambagh.

The development comes about a month after the second phaseof the flyover from Rambagh to Alochi Bagh was thrown open after severalhiccups hampering its completion were sorted and pace of work expedited.

The Governor administration has made construction andcompletion of the flyover amongst its main developmental concerns in theSrinagar city being seen as a significant remedy to traffic congestion thereof,said an official spokesman.

The Srinagar administration has been at the forefront ofefforts to speed up the construction of the flyover project having beenregularly monitoring construction work and redressing related concerns, hesaid.

The 2.4 kilometre flyover with six access ramps – includingat Jehangir Chowk, Gogji Bagh, Alochi Bagh, Rambagh, Natipora and Barzulla – isexpected to substantially decongest city traffic and reduce travel time betweenJehangir Chowk and Rambagh from about 45 minutes as it takes now to about 3minutes.
