JKAP welcomes shifting of Mehbooba to her Gupkar residence

Welcoming shifting of Peoples Democratic Party President, Mehbooba Mufti from a makeshift jail to her residence here, Jammu Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) on Tuesday demanded immediate release of all political leaders and activists who were still under preventive detention in and outside J&K jails.

In a statement, Rafi AhmadMir, the party leader urged the government of India to take a purpose orientedcall on these “unwarranted detentions” and free all political detaineesincluding Mehbooba who has now been confined to her home.

   

“While it is hearteningthat shifting of (Mehbooba) Mufti would provide some solace to her family, thesituation demands that all political leaders and activists who continue to beunder detention on mere suspicion should be freed in order to make thesituation more conducive,” Mir said.

The JKAP leader urged thegovernment to revoke PSA and release Mehbooba and lift all forms of curbs onthe political leaders and activists who were in different jails inside and outsideJ&K or restricted to their residences.

“JKAP demands immediaterelease of all political detainees including Ali Mohammad Sagar, Naeem Akhter,Sartaj Madni, Peerzada Mansoor, Shah Faesal, Hilal Rather, Mian Qayoom, YasinKhan and others, without any further delay,” Mir demanded.

He also sought immediateshifting of political activists and workers, who were languishing in jailsoutside J&K since August 5 last year to Jammu and Kashmir after the COVID19lockdown was over.
