JKLF chief Yasin Malik detained in Srinagar

Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik was detained from his home in Srinagar on Wednesday.

A JKLF spokesman said a police party arrived at the Maisuma residence of Malik and detained him.

   

“Malik sahib was later lodged at Kothibagh police station,” he said, adding that the JKLF chief was detained to prevent him from leading protests against the August 15 celebrations in the Valley.

He said that JKLF vice-chairman Showkat Bakshi and zonal organizer Bashir Kashmiri were also arrested and lodged at police station Kothibagh.

“…earlier police arrested JKLF district president Ganderbal Bashir Ahmad Rather along with a dozen JKLF activists and lodged them in different police stations,” he said, in a statement.

Joint  Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik have called for a shutdown today.
