Justice MK Hanjura was accorded warm send-off today on his impending superannuation as judge of Jammu and Kashmir High Court. A full court reference was organized by the High Court to bid adieu to Justice Hanjura.
Justice Hanjura took over as High Court judge on June 6, 2017 and is superannuating on 21 October. During this brief stay at the High Court, he has decided 3,158 main cases and 2546 miscellaneous matters.
In 2017 Justice Hanjura has availed no leave while in 2018 he availed leave for just 7 days. About 600 of his judgments have been reported.
The farewell function was attended by Chief Justice Gitta Mittal, Justice Alok Aradhe, Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, Justice Tashi Rabstan and Justice Rashid Ali Dar. Advocate General while addressing the gathering highlighted Justice Hanjura’s judicial verdicts during his tenure in J&K High Court. He also appreciated his dedication in delivering the justice.
In his address, Justice Hanjura, thanked the Chief Justice, Judges of the High Court, and Advocate General for their kind gesture. He also appreciated the cooperation and commitment of the members of Bar and their support in his time in High Court. He has praised his personal staff.
Born at Hanjura in Budgam district, Justice Hanjura, pursued Law as a subject in the University of Kashmir and completed LLB (Hons) in the year 1979.
He practiced law in the district courts at Budgam up to the date of his appointment as Munsiff on 19.01.1987.
He was promoted as district judge in 2003. He worked as special judge Anti Corruption, Jammu Province, chairman Sales Tax Tribunal J&K, principal district and sessions Judge Kathua during his tenure as district and sessions Judge. He decided the infamous case relating to Birpur land scandal and many others in his capacity as special judge Anti Corruption Jammu province and principal district and session judge, Kathua.
He served twice as the registrar general of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir.
He has the distinction of working as a Registrar in the Supreme Court of India for more than three years.
In his address, Justice Hanjura mesmerised the audience by quoting from the poetry of Ghalib and Iqbal. While recalling his parents for their encouragement and guidance, he broke down during his address.
