Kangan: BJP worker arrested for trying to ‘usurp’ portion of graveyard

Police on Thursday arrested a BJP worker for allegedly trying to usurp a part of a graveyard in Kangan town of this district.

According to locals, the BJP leader GhulamQadir of NunnerGanderbal arrived at Kichpara village with an excavator (JCB machine) and began making a road through the graveyard.

   

An eyewitness said locals assembled at the spot and resisted the move by the BJP worker by holding a protest demonstration and sought action against the BJP worker.

“A local BJP worker had purchased a portion of land in Kichpara near the graveyard. However, when he was trying to create a pathway using an excavator, he usurped a portion of the local graveyard also that we objected to and protested” said Shabir Ahmed Mir, a local.He said they immediately informed the TehsildarKangan who along with a police team reached the spot and stopped the work.  Sub Divisional Police Officer Kangan, Sheikh Tahir said the police took cognizance of the incident and registered an FIR against the accused BJP worker. “He has been arrested,” said Tahir.
