The Srinagar-Baramulla national highway at Kanispora is in extreme bad condition. The dilapidated road has become a nuisance for the locals as well as to thousands of people travelling daily.
The big potholes and the drain water floating on the road,often lead to traffic mess at Kanispora. The locals demanded immediate repairof the road.
As per sources, the condition of the road started todeteriorate only after few locals encroached upon a drain few years back.
Soon after the drain was encroached upon, its water startedto submerge the road, ultimately damaging it completely.
“It is the leaked water of the drain which has caused damageto the road. Had authorities initiated action against the encroachers, thepeople would not have been subjected to such an inconvenience” said RiyazAhmad, resident of Kanispora Baramulla.
The frequent travellers on this road while showing theiranger against the authorities said it is because of the bad condition of theroad that they often arrive late at their working place.
Locals said they had informed about the encroachment to thelocal authorities, but they failed to take any action. “We visited the localtehsildar’s office and apprised him about the attempts being made to encroachupon the drain. However, despite identifying the encroachers, the authoritiesdid nothing,” said Muhammad Ayub, a local resident.
He said the authorities must initiate legal action againstthe encroachers.
Despite repeated attempts, no authority could be contactedfor comment.
