KAS officer offers house to stranded Kashmiris, wins hearts

In a heart-warming gesture, a KAS officer posted in Jammu has offered accommodation to the Kashmiris stranded in the city because of the closure of Srinagar-Jammu highway.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, KAS officer Reyaz Ahmed Wani published his contact number and asked the stranded passengers to call him in case of need of accommodation and any other help.

“This so called National Highway has put many people to unimaginable distress. Many Kashmiris are stranded in Jammu, with little support. All of us should do our bit. I am putting up at Sidhra. If anyone out here is in touch with any stranded valleyites particularly with children or sick, please give them my contact. I can accommodate at least 20 people at my residence till the highway opens. (7006604168).” (Sic)

The Srinagar-Jammu highway is closed for almost 20 days now barring brief resumptions of traffic a couple of times. As a result, thousands of Kashmiris are stranded in Jammu with no help from the government.

The officer hails from Kangan area of Ganderbal district and is presently posted as deputy secretary in General Administration Department at civil secretariat Jammu.

The netizens have widely hailed the gesture of the senior KAS officer.
