Kashmir-bound passengers stranded in Jammu protest, demand airlifting

Kashmir-bound passengers stranded in Jammu due to closure of Srinagar-Jammu highway on Friday staged a protest, urging the government to airlift them to the Valley.

The stranded passengers, which included women, children and the elderly as well, staged a protest at general bus stand Jammu.

The nearly 300-km long strategic Srinagar-Jammu highway remained closed for fifth straight day on Friday due to snowfall and landslides at various places.

Traffic authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have said more than 800 people remained stranded due to the closure of the highway.

The stranded passengers alleged that some shopkeepers were taking undue advantage of their miseries.
