Kashmir University announces winter vacation from Dec 23 to February 2

The University of Kashmir has announced winter vacation for students of main campus and offsite campuses from December 23 to February 2, 2020.

In this regard, the order-vide number winter break/daa/ku/2019 dated December 13 was issued by Deputy Registrar academic affairs on Friday. “This is for the information of all the concerned that teaching departments of main as well as satellite campuses excluding Leh and Kargil campuses shall observe winter vacation  from December 23 of 2019 to February 2, 2020,” reads the KU order.

It reads that the departmental offices shall function normally and the Heads of the Departments shall ensure that examination and other businesses go on unhampered.

Meanwhile, the students have demanded that the varsity should prepone the winter vacation for main campus citing that the KU started class work in their Post-Graduation (PG) department without providing hostel and transport facility to the students.

“Students have to shuttle every day from north and south Kashmir districts to attend their classes. Most of the students can’t make it to attend the classes on daily basis as KU has closed the hostels for all students,” said a student from Baramulla district.

“The university is not also plying its buses to ferry students from different districts to the main campus,” he added.

“We can’t now hire rented accommodation for mere eight days as KU has announced winter break from next week,” the students said.

Pertinent to mention that KU has eight hostels, including four each for boys and girl students at main and Zakura campuses. These hostels accommodate almost 2000 PG students of the varsity.

Dean academic affairs KU, Professor Akbar Masood said there was no chance to prepone the winter break for students.

“Now that vacations have been announced, let the students manage one more week as they have been doing from past weeks. I assure that the issue of hostel accommodation will be resolved when classwork will resume after winter break,” Prof Masood said.
