Clashes erupted in north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Thursday after the students of government higher secondary school Delina staged a protest against the horrific gang-rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua.

The students, demanding justice for the Kathua girl, had blocked the vital Srinagar-Baramulla highway, bringing traffic movement to a standstill.

As the protests intensified, a police party reached at the spot to disperse the protesting students. However, the students dressed in school uniform pelted them with stones.

The police personnel chased the students who managed to slip into the lanes and bylanes.

After a while, forces managed to clear the highway for traffic movement.

Pertinently, the district administration had suspended class work in all boys/girls colleges and higher secondary schools of the town except Delina higher secondary school.
