Kathua gangrape-murder: Omar, Mehbooba welcome court verdict

Former chief ministers of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullahand Mehbooba Mufti on Monday welcomed the verdict of the Pathankot court inKathua gangrape-murder case.

While Abdullah called for severe punishment for theconvicted, Mufti hoped that loopholes in judicial system would not beexploited.

   

“Amen to that. The guilty deserve the most severe punishmentpossible under law. And to those politicians who defended the accused, vilifiedthe victim & threatened the legal system no words of condemnation areenough. #KathuaRapeCase,” Omar said in a tweet.

Earlier, the Pathankot court convicted six out of the sevenaccused, including the mastermind Sanjhi Ram in gangrape and murder of aneight-year-old Gujjar girl.

“Welcome the judgement. High time we stop playing politicsover a heinous crime where an 8 year old child was drugged, raped repeatedly& then bludgeoned to death. Hope loopholes in our judicial system are notexploited & culprits get exemplary punishment,” former chief ministerMehbooba Mufti said in a tweet.

Six out of seven accused including mastermind Sanjhi Ram,special police officer Deepak Khajuria, Surender Verma, Tilak Raj, and AnandDutta were convicted by a court in Pathankot.
